The History of The Llama Community, Amazon, Peru
Llama is a native Amazonian community founded by Daniel on November 12, 2016, whose roots are from the Matsès tribe near the Peru-Brazil border. The first to arrive was Daniel’s brother Luis in March 2016, the land was untouched jungle — rich with wild life and dense forest.
Daniel met his wife, Mercid, in Iquitos in 1995. They now have six children and are dedicated to protecting their land and culture. Luis currently serves as head of the jungle territory, with Daniel preparing to take on this sacred role.
But the land is not yet officially theirs.
Daniel’s greatest desire is to protect the land from outside threats, I am kindly seeking funding to help register the territory with Peru’s Ministry of Agriculture — a crucial step toward securing the community.
Daniel is solely responsible for community which includes the overseing of education, with no high school on the island, teens must travels to the city — which requires paying for schooling and accommodation. The reliance on natural plant medicine, land ownership is vital for the community’s survival and future also to supply countries like ours where the medicine is not naturally grown.
